New Student Convocation is a welcome ceremony for Georgia Tech incoming students. Held on the day before the first day of classes, all incoming students will receive their RAT cap, T-Book, and Georgia Tech pin.

What to Expect and Venue Information:

New Students

  • Participate in the Georgia Tech tradition of receiving your RAT Cap and T-book.
  • Wear your favorite white and gold! Or other light colors as the event is outside.
  • Stay hydrated, weather is expected to be hot. 
  • Participate in pre-show activities.
  • Student seating will be located in sections 121 – 130.
  • Shuttles will pick-up West Campus students at 6th and McMillan St. in front of Fitten Residence Hall starting at 7:30 a.m.
  • Student entry will be at Gates 8, 9, and 10. ADA entry for students is Gate 9.
  • Shuttles will be available after the event to take students back to West Campus.

Parents and Guardians

  • Parents and guardians are welcome to attend.
  • Stay hydrated as the weather is expected to be hot.
  • Parents and guardians can take a shuttle from the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center starting at 8 a.m.
  • Parent and guardian entry will be at Gates 6 and 7. ADA entry for parents and guardians is Gate 6.
  • Parent and guardian seating will be located in sections 119 – 120.
  • Seating will be located in the North end zone.
  • Shuttles will be available after the event to take parents and guardians back to the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center.
  • Visitor parking is located in Peters Parking Deck.
  • ADA parking is located on Brittan Dr., Fowler St., and Peter's Parking Deck.

Coffee and Caps

Stop by and get breakfast at your favorite campus dining hall before getting your RAT Cap at New Student Convocation on Sunday, August 21. Dining halls open at 7 a.m. and New Student Convocation will begin at 9 a.m. at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Meal plans are required to participate. 

Second Year Speaker

Rising second year students at Georgia Tech are welcome to apply to be this year's student speaker at New Student Convocation on Sunday, August 21. One student will be selected by a panel of faculty, administrators, and students to share an inspirational message for this year's incoming class. The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 22, at noon.
