New Student Convocation

During this welcoming ceremony, all incoming students will receive their RAT cap, T-Book, and Georgia Tech pin. Parents and guests may also attend to celebrate their student's entry into Georgia Tech. No tickets are required to attend.

Transportation and Parking


  • First-year students will meet with their Freshman Experience (FE) peer leader in their residence hall and travel as a group.
  • Transfer students and first-years who are not in the Freshman Experience program walk to the venue or use the Georgia Tech Stingers.
  • Off-campus students may park in  E81 lot (Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center) or W23 lot (State Street). These are paid lots.

Parents and Guests

  • Guests are encouraged to park in the E81 lot (Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center) or W23 lot (State Street). These are paid lots. 
  • Only handicap guests with a current handicap parking tag will be permitted to park in the E65 lot behind McCamish Pavilion. 
  • A guest shuttle will be available after the event for visitors who parked in E81. The shuttle will pick up outside of Main Entrance at McCamish at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Graduate Student Welcome

The Institute welcomes graduate students at the Graduate Student Welcome on Wednesday, August 29.

What to Expect


  • Students will be seated with their residence hall at the event.
  • Dress code for this event is casual.
  • Our pre-show highlights a few of the opportunities at Georgia Tech, from student organizations to learning opportunities.
  • Students will receive their traditions bag at the event, which includes their rat cap.
  • After the program, students will be escorted directly to Rock, Ramble, and Roll at the Student Center.

Parents and Guests

  • Parents and guests will be seated in the upper section of McCamish Pavilion. Unfortunately, guests may not sit with their student during this event.
  • Dress code for this event is causal.
  • It can be difficult to find your student after the event. Discuss with them in advance if you want to meet up. We encourage families to meet at the east or west entrance, as the main entrance gets very crowded. 

Give 1 - Get 1

Trade in your shirts from other colleges for a Georgia Tech shirt to show your Yellow Jacket pride. Give 1 - Get 1 will have a table outside of the West Entrance at New Student Convocation from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Parents Program - Burdell's Brunch

While your students are getting ready for Convocation, Parents Program will host a special brunch reception for parents and guests.

This event will be held Sunday, August 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center.

Rock, Ramble,
and Roll

Immediately following the ceremony, students will attend a special welcome party sponsored by Auxiliary Services - Rock, Ramble, and Roll - which celebrates their first night as a Georgia Tech college student.

Held in the Student Center, students may take a shuttle or walk over after the Convocation ceremony. This is a free event for new students.


ADA seating is located throughout the venue for guests and students.
